By Crox Media: Manchester United Forward Cristiano Ronaldo has admitted that he was close to joining Manchester City last summer before returning to Old Trafford again.
The star left Juventus last summer, and there were rumours suggesting that he might return to England by joining Pep Guardiola’s team. He did, however, end up in Manchester.
Speaking with Piers Morgan, CR admitted that he was close to joining Manchester City last summer.
“Well, it was too close, and (Manchester City Manager Guardiola said two weeks ago, I guess that they pushed hard for me. “It’s something that we also discussed,” Rolando told Piers Morgan in an interview for TalkTV , the first part of which aired on Wednesday.
Rolando also spoke about how Alex Ferguson helped him make up his mind to return to Manchester United and not join Manchester City.
The legendary manager, according to the Portuguese footballer, was the key, and Ferguson told him that joining Manchester City was impossible.
“I think that was the key. It made all the difference in the moment, but I cannot stay loyal, despite wanting to. I wouldn’t say Manchester City wasn’t close.” Rolando said.
I chatted with him about it, but he said it would be challenging for him to join the city.
“And I said okay, boss, and I finally made the right choice.” Ronaldo is currently in the Portuguese squad for the World Cup in Group H with Uruguay, South Korea, and Ghana.
