TikTok fired whole staff in India after the platform was banned in India 3 years ago, and 40 employees lose their jobs

TikTok which had the second largest user base in India was banned in India in 2020 due to security reasons along with other third-party Chinese apps.

By Crox Media:  After three years after TikTok was banned in India, the Bytedance-owned platform wiped out the entire staff of India. Although the company lost its market share in the country it still had an office in India. The TikTok employees who worked out of India basically worked for Dubai and Brazil Markets. Bytedance did try out with the Indian Government but could not find a way to get back to the Indian Market. The app’s fate is similar in the United States too. 

Official Announcement: TikTok has confirmed shutting down its office in India. In the statement, the company spokesperson said “we have taken the decision to close our India office which was in place at the end of 2020 to provide support to our regional and sales teams. We highly appreciate the effort and impact of employees towards the growth of the organization and will ensure complete support to them in these difficult times”

According to a report from ET, “the total number of employees worked for TikTok were 40 and after Monday’s call, they were assured nine months of severance pay”

“The TikTok employees were told that 28th February was their last day and was given the opportunity to look out for new opportunities in the market but later on it was stated that they are going to restart their operations but later on it was declined because of the government’s stance on Chinese apps.

TikTok had massive fanbase in India. A 15-second platform provided immense entertainment and employment opportunities for people of all ages. The app was banned in India because it was found that it stored the personal data of Indian users. It was alleged by the Indian security experts that stored data is shared with government outlets in China.
